What We Do

ideas42 is the preeminent organization in the world applying behavioral science to solve social problems and is continuing to invest in improving and expanding our communications capabilities. We work with a wide range of partners, from leading foundations and nonprofit organizations, to government bodies and businesses. In short, anyone who wants to make a positive difference in peoples’ lives. Examples of projects include:

  • Working with service and technical assistance providers to improve the quality of family planning and reproductive health services in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia
  • Partnering with public universities to design and test behavioral strategies for increasing student retention and degree completion rates, such as an innovative mechanism for disbursing financial aid funds at community colleges in the United States

The Role

This new role is part of our strategic growth and vital to our ability to implement an ambitious communications plan in support of ideas42’s overall mission. Digital and traditional channels are equal partners in communicating our work, and create a virtuous cycle with their support of each other. Working closely with both the communications team and project teams, the successful candidate will play a key part in helping us achieve our mission by communicating the results of our work applying behavioral insights to social problems across multiple digital platforms. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Deliver and execute a robust digital and social media strategy that supports overall ideas42 communications objectives.
  • Produce high-quality content publicizing our work for a range of digital channels (e.g. Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, email marketing, etc.).
  • Assist with the day-to-day execution of ideas42’s overarching communications strategy, and support senior communications staff in crafting and delivering communications strategies for specific projects across multiple content domains (e.g. healthcare, financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, international development, safety & justice, etc) with a focus on digital and social channels.
  • Lead management of ideas42 website, including keeping existing content up to date and working with colleagues and contractors to generate content and conceptualize new, interactive functionality.
  • Create and execute an SEO strategy and A/B testing plan for the organization’s website.
  • Research social media best practices on an ongoing basis and create a robust pipeline of content, utilizing video and images, to maximize reach across multiple platforms.

Who Are We Looking For?

The successful candidate will be comfortable working as part of a small team, suggesting new ideas, and thinking critically. This role will report to the Vice President of Communications. We’re looking for a mission-aligned self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and innovative environment while juggling multiple projects and competing deadlines at once. Inquisitive, resourceful, analytical individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit and ownership mentality will thrive. A passion for unorthodox problem-solving and promoting social good is critical, but prior expertise or training in behavioral economics or psychology is not expected. Specific qualifications include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field.
  • At least 3-5 years working in an agency or in-house setting in a relevant position
  • Knowledge of digital analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Buffer.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
  • Experience working on video development using visual storyboarding and narrative creation in conjunction with external creative and video production contractors.
  • The ability to establish good working relationships with people at all levels and from diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Significant experience using social media and online platforms for brands and large communities as part of a broader strategic communications plan.
  • An understanding of website CMS systems including WordPress.
  • Familiarity with (and willingness to further develop skill in) Photoshop, Illustrator, MS PowerPoint, and video editing programs.
  • Experience with CRM platforms integrated into email marketing systems such as Salesforce and Mailchimp is a plus.
